Photonics
Displaytech has been advancing the science and technology of fast Ferroelectric Liquid Crystals (FLC) and their applications for over twenty years. We were the first company to sell FLCs commercially and we continue to develop and manufacture FLCs today.
Displaytech's Photonics group carries out advanced FLC research and development. To facilitate FLC development, we have developed proprietary automated instrumentation capable of rapidly measuring key sets of material properties. Displaytech makes and sells electronically controllable Photonics devices such as rotators, shutters, and other related devices primarily to researchers and product developers. These Photonics devices are the building blocks for optical systems.

Photonics Products
Rotators
Displaytech Rotators are the basis of all Photonics products. Our devices are electro-optical so they elicit an optical response with an electrical input. Displaytech makes Polarization Rotators in a variety of aperture sizes and housing types. Our Polarization Rotators are highly reliable, have <100 microseconds one state transition time, 85% transmission, and a high contrast ratio.
Shutters
Displaytech makes electronic shutters based on FLC technology that eliminate the vibration of mechanical shutters. Displaytech makes both standard Shutters and Video Shutters in a variety of aperture sizes and housing types. Our shutters are highly reliable, contain no moving parts, have <100 ms one state transition time and a high contrast ratio.
Drivers
Displaytech designed drivers to obtain maximum performance from our Shutters and Polarization Rotators. Displaytech makes two drivers: DR95 (Product Data Sheet - PDF, HTML) and DR50 (Product Data Sheet - PDF, HTML). The DR95 features include low cost, optimized waveform for FLC devices, TTL/CMOS drive and gate input, 20 minute standby power down, compact design, and required external signal source. The DR50 features include TTL/5 V CMOS external trigger, 0.1 Hz-20 kHz frequency range, sync output signal, low drift and jitter, crystal control phase lock circuitry, and gate for disabling the drive signal.
