Displaytech's New LightView 201k Color Microdisplay Offers Small Size and Low Power Consumption for Mobile Consumer Electronics

For Immediate Release

LONGMONT, Colo., Sept. 29, 2004 — Displaytech, Inc., the leader in ferroelectric liquid crystal on silicon (F-LCoS) microdisplays, announced it is beginning production ramp of its new color microdisplay, the LightView 201k (LV201k) Display Module.

The LV201k offers a high fill factor and wide color gamut while having a miserly system power consumption of 75 milliwatts, allowing consumer electronics designers to extend the battery life of their digital still cameras, camcorders, or other mobile electronics products. The LV201k joins the LV311k digital display module in Displaytech's product portfolio as a lower resolution, lower price alternative for cost conscious product designers.

"The extremely compact form factor and minimal power consumption of the LV201k are features strongly desired by our customers," stated Steve Reinhard, Displaytech Director of Marketing. "Those features combined with superior image quality and price to performance ratio compared to competing microdisplays, will allow the LV201k to enable new classes of portable consumer electronics."

About the LV201k

The LV201k is a 0.20-inch diagonal FLC on CMOS reflective microdisplay with 300 by 224 pixel display resolution. Each pixel has 18-bit color depth, and the display operates at a frame rate of 120 Hz (360 Hz RGB field rate) to provide flicker free, full color video imaging. With a fill factor of ninety-three percent, the display yields smooth images without the "screen door effect" found in transmissive TFT-LCD panels. In addition, the reflective display technology utilizes an efficient tri-color LED that allows for a color gamut unmatched by displays utilizing color filters.

The LV201k accepts the same CCIR 601 and CCIR 656 standard digital video interfaces as the LV311k, making it easy to integrate either or both displays into a family of end user products. Customer support for both electrical and optical integration is available from Displaytech's offices in the United States and Japan. The LV201k can also be sourced from Displaytech as an optical engine, complete with magnification optics and mechanical housing.
