ORLANDO, Fla., February 13, 2001 -- Displaytech Inc., the leader in the design, development, manufacturing and marketing of ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) microdisplays, today announced at PMA that it has appointed current CEO Haviland Wright as chairman of the board. Wright will remain CEO while concurrently fulfilling the obligations of chairman.

Wright joined Displaytech as a board member in 1994 and was appointed CEO in 1995. His primary obligation while CEO was to smoothly transition the company from its research and development roots to a full-production supplier of OEM components. With the recent announcement of a second source manufacturing facility in Japan, Displaytech is the only dual-sourced, mass production microdisplay supplier in the world. This push has resulted in production capability that translates into one million microdisplays per month by the end of 2001.

As Chairman of the Board, Wright will take on expanded responsibility for the company's strategic vision and overall direction, continuing to push the production and manufacturing ramp-up, as well as encouraging design wins in target application markets, including single panel rear projection television, digital still cameras and digital camcorders. Significant design wins under Wright's tenure include Samsung's rear projection television and the JVC digital camcorder.

Prior to joining Displaytech, Wright founded and led Avalanche Development, a company that helped pioneer the programming language upon which the World Wide Web is based. He sold the company to Interleaf in 1993, but remained on as Interleaf's senior vice president and chief scientist. Wright has also held faculty positions at the University of Colorado and the University of Denver.

Wright holds a master's of business administration and a doctorate degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
