ORLANDO, Fla., February 12, 2001 -- Conexant Systems Inc., (Nasdaq: CNXT) today announced a complete digital camera reference design kit that interfaces with Displaytech Inc.'s ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) microdisplays. Conexant's 1.3-megapixel CMOS reference design kit, combined with Displaytech's LightView QVGA microdisplay, provides a turnkey imaging solution for manufacturers of digital cameras and other imaging devices. In contrast with traditional digital signal processors (DSPs) and hard-wired ASICs, Conexant's programmable solution speeds time-to-market by allowing manufacturers to easily choose from a wide variety of supported features.

"Displaytech's LightView QVGA display modules have earned an excellent reputation among leading camera manufacturers for their display quality, small form factor and low power consumption," said Prasan Pai, business director for Conexant's Personal Imaging Division. "Our relationship with Displaytech will further our ability to meet our OEM customers' needs for turnkey digital camera solutions."

Conexant's reference design kit incorporates the company's 1.3-megapixel CMOS sensor and the Raptor™ II-C; a next-generation advanced digital camera processor. By incorporating all the necessary hardware, firmware and software needed to create a digital still camera, Conexant's reference design kit dramatically simplifies the design process and shortens time-to-market. To achieve seamless integration with the Displaytech microdisplay, Conexant developed a new firmware module running on the Conexant Raptor II-C for its reference design kit. The reference design also can be expanded to incorporate many of Conexant's existing communications technologies, such as Bluetooth short-range connectivity technology and embedded V.90/V.92 modems.

Displaytech's LightView QVGA microdisplays feature outstanding image quality in a small, lightweight form factor. With resolutions of 320 x 240 pixels, 24-bit color and a display diagonal of 0.19 inch, these microdisplays enable OEMs to produce innovative designs with outstanding optical clarity. In addition, the inherent low power consumption of patented FLC microdisplays, along with Conexant's low-power CMOS sensor, extends the battery life of digital camera designs.

"With its outstanding feature set and easy programmability, Conexant's 1.3 megapixel CMOS reference design kit is an ideal complement to our LightView QVGA microdisplay module," said J.P.VALiulis, senior director of business development for Displaytech. "By collaborating with Conexant, we can offer customers a comprehensive capture and display solution they can quickly and easily incorporate into next-generation digital still camera designs."
