[CES] 3M shows 2nd gen of ultra pico projector, thickness becomes half of 1st gen

3M (USA) has developed ultra pico projector with 12mm thickness and exhibit at 2009 International CES. Their 1st generation product has thickness of 22mm and they made it thinner into about half. They have just start selling the 1st generation pico-projector in November 2008. (Tech-On! Related article 1)

New engine uses LCOS as imager and its resolution is 640 x 480 (VGA). LCOS is developed by Displaytech Inc. (USA). They use Ferroelectric liquid crystal and it supports wider temperature range. Related article 2?To display image, RGB 3 color LED is driven field sequentially. 3M used Himax Technologies(Taiwan) LCOS for their 1st generation, which uses white LED and color filter to display color.? Brightness is about 10lm, Contrast is about 200:1. Color reproduction area covers 100% NTCS gamut. Li Ion Battery which is in the demo is 1000mAh and it lasts max 2 hours.
